Resilience & Extreme Environmental Events
Extreme environmental events, like storms, floods and fires can affect any community. They impact the health and wellbeing of people, as well as the environment.
Macedon and Mt Macedon Landcare Group, with the support of the Shire and experts in various fields, will be holding a series of events in 2024/25, to help build personal and community resilience. We will focus on developing our understanding of the environment in which we live and connecting through these shared experiences.
We want to bring people together to learn and talk about:·
Local weather and microclimates around the mountain
Indigenous cultural land management practices, past and present
Bio-Links within, from and to our forests and waters
Our aims are:
To build knowledge and understanding within the community around local environmental issues that relate to our vulnerability to natural disasters.
To build knowledge and networks amongst active community members with a focus on resilience, recovery and collaborative processes.
Our first event will be on Sept 12 with Dr Linden Ashcroft, a climate scientist and gifted science communicator from the University of Melbourne, who will be presenting “Understanding the climate of the Mount Macedon region in a state and global context.”
